RUDER THAN YOU classifies as ska with dub, rocksteady, and dancehall reggae influences. The 9-member band, based out of Philadelphia, has been making the masses skank for 8 years. Formed in State College in 1989 by tenor saxophonist Doug Dubrosky, the band migrated to Philadelphia in 1990. The band features a powerful 4-piece horn section consisting of baritone and tenor saxes, trombone, and trumpet. RTY has shared stages with other ska and reggae acts Skatalites, Ziggy Marley, Special Beat, Desmond Dekker, Bad Manners, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Steel Pulse, Eek-a-Mouse, Fishbone, No Doubt, and Yellowman.
