Skavoovie and the Epitones
in Richmond, VA

Skavoovie & the Epitones distinguish themselves from the hordes of today's cookie-cutter ska bands with their creativity and fresh approach to music making. Rather than directly mimic their ska predecessors, Skavoovie & the Epitones examine ska's musical roots and re configure them into a modern dance sound heavily influenced by jazz and swing. Listen to Skavoovie and you will hear innovative song writing, creative improvisation, distinctive arranging, inimitable groove, and technical virtuosity. Most importantly, Skavoovie & the Epitones are entertainers. It is difficult to ignore their exuberant 10 man, dance oriented performance.

As CMJ wrote, "Skavoovie & the Epitones play infections ska just brimming with boisterous shouting and raucous squawking horns." With their own version of swinging ska, Skavoovie will have you moving from your head to your feet. Skavoovie's first album, "Fat Footin'", became the fastest selling debut record in Moon Ska's illustrious history. The positive press it garnered won numerous awards including nominations in the 1995, 1996, and 1997 Boston Music Awards, and a place in the Boston Tab's "Ten Best Unsigned Bands in Boston" list.

Now, in 1998, Skavoovie has seven national tours under it's belt, the most recent having been the highly successful Moonstomp II Tour (a showcase of Moon Ska's three most promising young bands). Their new album, "Ripe", on Moon Ska Records, has sold extremely well. Skavoovie & the Epitones have sold over 10,000 copies of "Ripe" - a feat achieved by only 15% of all bands. With an increasingly diverse fan base, two brilliant CD's, a newly completed video, and a unique, innovative sound, Skavoovie & the Epitones undeniably prove that they are one of today's most promising young stars.
